SALFO in Joint Venture with Parsons Group International and Transurb Technirail (subsidiary of Belgian Railways) were responsible for providing programme management services to the Hellenic Railways Organization (ERGOSE) for the implementation of its investment programme for the period 2003-2009.
The Programme's scope was to deliver a modernized railway network, which would meet passenger and freight transport demands both nationally and internationally and would increase its competitiveness against other transport systems.
The overall budget of the Investment Programme that we managed exceeded 2 billion Euros. The largest project was the upgrade of the main rail line Patras – Athens – Thessaloniki – Idomeni to an electrified high-speed corridor in compliance with the European railway interoperability requirements and with increased transport capacity, along with its connection to the principle ports of Greece as well to the Athens International Airport. Another key project was the development of the Athens suburban railway network, which, in combination with other transportation networks, namely the Athens Metro and Attiki Odos Motorway would create an integrated transportation network, connecting Piraeus port to the Athens International Airport, with expected passenger traffic of 225.000 passengers.
